Improve Your Short Game – Flop Shot
The flop shot is the perfect shot for when you are stuck behind a bunker and you don’t have much green.
A Successful Stance
To perform a flop shot you always need to create the largest launch angle possible. This can be achieved by laying the golf club next to the ball, face up, and lining up the shot. Then take your grip, do not do it the other way round. Another tip is to address the ball from the heel of the club, this will force your body to make a tighter swing.
When preparing for your shot, always make sure that your hips, shoulders and feet are facing to the left of the target, this will create a shallower swing path. When setting your stance though be careful to aim for the ball and not to where you are facing, otherwise the ball will end up veering to the left.
Releasing the Shaft
When making the swing, try to avoid gripping too tightly. If you hold the grip too tightly you will find it hard to commit to the shot. Loosen up your grip a little and follow the swing all the way up to the finishing position. As long as you have opened the face of the club then you should be able to hit the ball hard without it going too far.
