Perfect Putting
Perfect Putting
Using all the previous tips about chipping, you should be left with a perfect short putt. All that’s left to do is roll the ball into the hole.
Gaining Confidence
Sometimes the easier the shot seems, the more pressure and nervousness a player will feel to make the shot. The best way to counteract these kinds of nerves is simply just practice. When practicing your putting place a tee on the other side of the hole, about six inches past it. When making the putt, try and put the amount of power into the swing so that the ball would hit the tee if the hole wasn’t there. This will allow the ball to go into the hole with confidence rather than losing its momentum just before the hole. Doing this should increase your confidence in your short game.
Judging the Distance
It is always important to have good judgement when making a putt. Again this will all come down to practice. A player should judge the distance to the hole and the lie of the land. Once you have picked the line you wish to follow, set yourself up square to where you want the ball to start rolling. This should prevent the club face from either being closed or open when making the shot.
Commitment
When putting, a player must alter the way that they make their swing. Putting requires that there be more follow through than actual back-swing before impact. This allows a greater amount of control as to where the ball goes. To practice this movement you can place two tees either side of the ball. The backswing tee should be closer to the ball than the other tee. This will allow you to monitor your swing and ensure that your follow through becomes greater.
Practice Makes Perfect
Before going out on to the course, ensure that you spend at least ten minutes practicing your putting to ensure that you are ready and confident before your game. A good way to practice is to line 4 balls up in a line, different distances from the hole. Simply work your way up the line, getting further away and practice getting the ball into the hole. Repeat this exercise around five times, players will find that their confidence will be boosted significantly as they have seen the ball go into the hole.
